Pre Wedding Shoot in Jaipur Permits & Drone Rules (2026): What Couples Must Know
By Laxya Dagdi, pre wedding photographer in Jaipur since 2014 · Updated October 2026
Most heritage monuments in Jaipur need a paid shoot permit for a pre wedding shoot, while public spots like Patrika Gate and the Jal Mahal promenade are free. Drones need separate DGCA Digital Sky clearance and a licensed pilot, and some zones near the airport and protected sites do not allow drones at all.
Couples often ask why the photographer's quote doesn't include "everything." The answer is permits. Below is the permit and drone checklist we follow on every shoot so nobody gets stopped at the gate.
Which Jaipur locations need a permit?
| Location | Permit | Who issues it | Approx. fee |
|---|---|---|---|
| Amer Fort | Paid | Archaeology Dept. | ₹5,000–₹15,000 |
| Nahargarh Fort | Paid entry + possible camera add-on | Archaeology Dept. | ₹2,000–₹6,000 |
| Jaigarh Fort | Paid | Archaeology Dept. | ₹2,000–₹6,000 |
| City Palace | Paid (higher for interiors) | City Palace Museum Trust | ₹8,000–₹20,000 |
| Panna Meena Ka Kund | Small entry fee | Local authority | ₹500–₹2,000 |
| Patrika Gate | Free | — | — |
| Jal Mahal promenade | Free (lake is off-limits) | — | — |
Fees are set by each venue and can change. Always reconfirm a week before the shoot.
How the permit process works
- Fix your date and slot first. Permits are issued for a specific day and time window.
- Share ID details with your photographer. Most desks want the couple's and crew's names.
- Pay at the counter or through the department. Keep the receipt on your phone and on paper.
- Arrive 20 minutes early. Staff check receipts and equipment at the gate.
Drone rules for a pre wedding shoot in Jaipur
India uses a three-zone map on the DGCA Digital Sky platform:
- Red zone: no flying — areas close to Jaipur airport and certain protected sites.
- Yellow zone: flying only with prior permission from the authority.
- Green zone: allowed for a registered drone flown by a licensed (RPC-holding) pilot.
Ground permits and drone clearance are two separate things. A fort permit does not automatically allow a drone.
Questions to ask your photographer
- Are permit fees included in the quote or extra?
- Who books the permits, and when?
- Can I see the drone pilot's RPC certificate and zone check?
- What is the backup plan if a location is closed that day?
Quick FAQ
Can we shoot at Hawa Mahal without a permit?
Photos from the street and the cafés opposite are usually fine. Shooting inside the monument with professional gear needs permission.
What happens if we shoot without a permit?
Staff can stop the shoot, ask you to leave, or hold equipment. It is not worth the risk on a day you have planned for months.
Are free locations good enough?
Yes. Patrika Gate and the Jal Mahal promenade at sunrise give beautiful, colourful frames at zero permit cost.
